Význam hodnot: Epocha - Datum (rok, měsíc, den), pro něž platí uvedené údaje. λ - Zeměpisná délka subsatelitního bodu ve stupních (kladná je východní délka, záporná je západní délka). Δλ - Denní změna polohy vzhledem k zemskému povrchu (změna zeměpisné délky subsatelitního bodu) ve stupních za den (kladná východním směrem, záporná západním směrem). i - Sklon dráhy k rovníku ve stupních.

Popis objektu

Stacionární meteorologická družice. Postavila ji firma Space Systems/Loral, Palo Alto, CA (USA). Operativním provozovatelem je NOAA National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service (NESDIS), Silver Spring, MD (USA) pro organizaci National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Washington, DC (USA); vypuštění a uvedení do provozu zajišťuje NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), Greenbelt, MD (USA).

Tříose stabilizovaná družice odvozená od typu FS-1300 o rozměrech základního tělesa 2.0×2.1×2.3 m je vybavena jedním panelem slunečních baterií o délce 26.9 m, dodávajícím min. 1.050 kW elektrické energie na konci aktivního života a dobíjejícím 2 NiCd akumulátorové baterie s kapacitou 2×12 Ah. Pro pomocné řízení polohy je vybavena malou sluneční plachtou na stabilizační tyči. Na palubě je následující vybavení:

Telekomunikační systém pracuje v pásmu S (1.676 GHz).

Hlavní pozemní stanice CDA [=Command and Data Acquisition] se nachází v areálu střediska NASA Wallops Flight Facility, Wallops Island, VA (USA).

Plánovaný bod zavěšení je nad 104° z.d. (dočasně), později jako operační družice GOES-West nad 135° z.d. Předpokládaná aktivní životnost je 5 roků.

Původně sloužila jako operační záloha pro družice GOES-8 (1994-022A) a GOES-10 (1997-019A).

Předchozí družicí této řady je GOES-10 (1997-019A), další je GOES-12 (2001-031A).

2000-05-03 07:32 UT: Navedení na přechodovou dráhu.
07:35 UT: Družice se oddělila od 2. st. nosné rakety.
Ve večerních hodinách se uskutečnila první korekce dráhy (t=53 min).
2000-05-07 Druhá korekce dráhy (t=30 min).
2000-05-09 Třetí korekce dráhy (t=6 min).
2000-06-10 Zahájení testů systémů družice.
2000-08-16 NASA ukončil provozní zkoušky družice a předal ji organizaci NOAA.
2006-červen Kooncem měsíce byla družice zakotvena nad 135° z.d. a zahájila operační provoz.
2011-12-05 21:00 UT: Družice pořídila poslední snímek oblačnosti Země24.
2011-12-06 Družice byla vyřazena ze služby; nahradila ji družice GOES-15 (2010-008A)23,24.
