Popis objektu

Stacionární telekomunikační družice. Postavila ji firma Aérospatiale Espace et Defense (nyní Alcatel Space Industries), Les Mureaux (Francie) v závodě v Cannes (Francie). Provozovatelem je organizace European Telecommunications Satellite Organization (nyní Eutelsat S. A.), Paris (Francie).

Tříose stabilizovaná družice typu Spacebus 2000 má tvar hranolu o rozměrech 2.7×1.3×1.3 m s panely slunečních baterií o rozpětí 22.4 m dodávajícími 3 kW elektrické energie na konci aktivního života. Je vybavena 16 převáděči pracujícími v pásmu Ku (14/10.95-11.20, 11.45-11.70 a 12.50-12.75 GHz, šířka pásma 9×36 a 7×72 MHz, výkon 16×50 W), které zabezpečují souběžnou retranslaci 25 000 telefonních hovorů a 9 televizních programů, k jejichž příjmu stačí antény o průměru 0.80 m. Je určena pro regionální telekomunikační služby v západní Evropě.

Plánovaný bod zavěšení je nad 16° v.d. Předpokládaná životnost je 9 roků.

Předchozí družicí této řady je Eutelsat-2 F-2 (1991-003B), další je Eutelsat-2 F-4 (1992-041B).
