Arkyves is an on-line research and education platform providing access to an extensive collection of images and texts from a number of world institutions over a unique web interface. This unique interface offers its users the chance of conducting a subject search in a set of more 900,000 items from the collections of a number of leading world institutions (e.g. the Dutch Rijksmuseum, RKD – Netherlands Institute for Art History, Herzog August Bibliothek and university libraries in Milan, Utrecht, Glasgow and Illinois). The multilingual classification system ICONCLASS makes it possible to filter content on a single topic from various sources in the Arkyves database. The user can make a search not just using an ICONCLASS identifier, but also using key words representing many various objects, events, abstract terms or people. Although Arkyves was developed primarily as a reference tool for the study of cultural history, it also serves as an excellent aid to the classification and description of collection items.

Description:

ASPI is an automated system for work with legal information. It contains all the legal regulations issued in the Czech Republic and the legal regulations of the European Union and European Community. All sources are monitored on a regular basis and the contents of the database continually updated with a view to amendments to the legal code. All preceding versions of the given regulations are available in addition to current editions. The service Legislative Process Monitoring also makes it possible to monitor a comprehensive overview of legislative amendments in preparation.

The ASL licence provides access to five principal parts of ASPI:

• The legal regulations of the Czech Republic – czech regulations in complete full-text form from 1918 onwards;
• Jurisprudence – rulings made by courts of all instances and rulings made by a number of other authorities;

The BFPB is a specialised database mapping out the production of foreign-language printed Bohemica from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century. The database contains:

• foreign-language printed works from printing houses in the territory of today’s Czech Republic regardless of the nationality of the author or the literary genre (only official printed works are not described)
• foreign editions of foreign-language works by authors originating from the territory of today’s Czech Republic
• foreign-language works by foreign authors published abroad if their content, place of origin, patron, etc. shows a relationship to the Czech, Moravian or Silesian environment (within the borders of today’s Czech Republic)
• the BFPB can currently be accessed in two ways:
  • Bohemica from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries are published in the form of scanned card indexes enabling searches by author, by anonymous headers and by printers.
  • Bohemica from the eighteenth century is now available through the Clavius system which enables combined searches of records by author, title, printer/publisher, and year and place of publication. These concise records are accompanied by digitalised cards with a detailed analytical description and shelf marks of copies found.

The works of J. A. Komenský and Bohuslav Balbín are processed separately within their own bibliographies.

The Lexikon der christlichen Ikonographie (LCI) database is an online version of the printed encyclopedia of the same name, which contains entries on Christian iconography. The database Ovid’s Metamorphoses in Historical Book Illustration contains illustrations from books of Ovid’s Metamorphoses in the historical collection of the LCAS. These books have been completely digitalised and the individual illustrations have been described in detail in accordance with a methodology for the purposes of bibliographic description and arranged for search purposes. The user can view these illustrations, discover the type of illustration, the principal themes and attributes of the depictions, and search and compare illustrations by means of key words and an index of characters. The user can also find out which artists created the illustrations and which graphic techniques they used. Description:

PressReader is a database containing full texts of more than 6,150 newspapers and magazines from more than 100 countries around the world, including the Czech Republic. Older editions are available, generally for a period of three months, in addition to current editions.

Titles can be browsed on a web interface or using the application PressReader which also enables their downloading to mobile device or PC. Downloaded titles will then be available without an Internet connection. The application is available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Amazon Kindle, Windows and Windows 8. A maximum of three users can access the database at any given time, either in the library itself (web/application) or by remote access (web only).

The ASL licence provides access to six main databases from the ProQuest Central and ProQuest STM collections:

ProQuest Central‎
ProQuest Central is currently the largest aggregated full-text database on the market. In addition to specialised journals, conference proceedings and papers, it also provides access to hundreds of American, Canadian and international newspapers, dissertations and to business information from more than forty countries. Thanks to its broad focus, it serves as a central source for researchers working in all fields. It contains documents from 1971 to the present day.

ProQuest Hospital Collection‎
Hospital Collection offers an extensive collection of journals, dissertations and other evidence-based sources in medicine.

ProQuest Natural Science Collection‎
Natural Science Collection is a database focusing on both the natural sciences and education in the natural sciences. Thanks to deep indexing, it enables content searches at the level of individual images, graphs and tables. It includes documents from 1693 to the present day.

ProQuest Science Journals‎
Science Journal is a source suitable for students and scientists in applied and theoretical science. It features documents covering a period from the middle of the nineteen eighties to the present day.

ProQuest Technology Collection‎ (1962–present day)
Technology Collection covers a complete range of technological research and development thanks to a combination of full texts and an extensive index of global branch literature. It covers a time period from 1962 to the present day.

The number of pages available for downloading, copying and printing depends on the policy of the individual publisher and may, for this reason, differ for each book.

Science has been publishing since its founding in 1880. It is renowned for its highly cited, peer-reviewed research papers, its special strength in life science disciplines, and its award-winning coverage of breaking science news. According to the Journal Citation Reports, its Impact Factor reached a value of 56.9 in 2022. Library of the Czech Academy of Science provides access to readers full text from 2024. Older editions of the journal are available in the EBSCO database or in library´s print collection.

The Scopus database from the company Elsevier is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature in the world.

The Articles-in-Press service makes it possible to search for papers from more than 3,750 journals before they have even been published.

The database is arranged by topic into four main areas:

• the natural sciences (agriculture, biology, neuroscience, pharmacology),
• the social sciences (the humanities, business, history, information science),
• the physical sciences (chemistry, engineering, mathematics), and
• the medical sciences (medicine, stomatology, nursing, veterinary medicine).

In addition to standard citation analysis tools, the Scopus database also enables searches in a citation impact index – the Hirsch Index.

Description:

Space 40 is a specialised database containing an overview of all successful cosmic launches from 1957 to 2012, with a description of individual satellites and probes and a concise overview of astronauts, launch sites, booster rockets, projects and accidents. Part of the database is comprised of a statistical overview of catalogued objects divided by types of orbit and functionality and an overview of launches with a large quantity of debris. Antonín Vítek, a leading Czech expert in cosmonautics and long-term employee of the Academy of Sciences, was the figure behind the project from its beginnings until his death.

Kramerius is a collection of digitalised periodicals and monographs from the Czech Academy of Sciences and its historical precursors, largely covering the nineteenth and twentieth centuries along with newer publications from the holdings of the Library of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Complete bibliographic details and parts of documents that are no longer subject to copyright are freely available; image data from documents subject to copyright is available only on a reserved computer in the study of the LCAS.

Documents can be downloaded in original JPG format, converted to PDF (including a version for electronic readers) and printed.

The EPrints database provides access to the current journal production of institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences and a selection of the production of external publishers. It contains full texts of papers from a total of twenty-three periodicals covering a period from 1991 to the present day (this period may differ for individual periodicals). The external publishers represented are the University of Ostrava (Historica), the publishing house Karolinum (Acta Universitatis Carolinae. Oeconomica. Czech Economic Review) and the Society for the History of Sciences and Technology (The History of Science and Technology). The texts of the papers are in the Czech and English languages. A merger with the digital library Kramerius is anticipated in the future.

The Web of Science Core Collection is the main Web of Science database. This multidisciplinary database contains records of impacted journals and konference proceedings from all over the world (including open-access journals. It covers more than 250 branches of science from the year 1900 onwards.

Data Citation Index is a database focusing on work with research data, data sets and research reports. It makes it possible to discover useful data associated with a selected topic. The ASL licence provides access to the editions Science and Social Sciences & Humanities.

Derwent Innovations Index makes it possible to conduct quick and accurate searches for patents in chemistry, electrotechnics, electronics and engineering. It contains more than 14.3 million discoveries registered with forty of the world’s patent organisations. Derwent Patent Citation Index also makes it possible to search for links between individual patents using citations. The index covers patents stretching back to 1963, with citations dating back to 1973.

KCI-Korean Journal Database contains bibliographic records on papers from around two thousand specialist journals published in Korea. This includes both pre-subscribed journals and journals published in open-access form. Covering a period dating back to 1980.

MEDLINE is a leading bibliographic database in medicine and related sciences created by the US National Library of Medicine. It indexes content from more than 4,900 branch journals published in thirty languages and a selection of relevant documents from newspapers, magazines and news bulletins. The branch thesaurus Medical Subject Headings and CAS registry numbers of chemical substances can be used for search purposes. Covering a period dating back to 1950.

SciELO Citation Index is a multidisciplinary database providing access to specialist texts published in open-access journals in Latin America, Spain, Portugal, the Caribbean and South Africa. Covering a period dating back to 1997.

Zoological Record is the world’s oldest database in animal biology. It contains 4,719 journal titles and other documents including books, research reports and conference proceedings covering a period dating back to 1994. It also contains an extensive database of animal names which, thanks to its coverage dating back to 1864, makes it possible to study the development of individual naming systems.

Web of Science also makes it possible to access the Journal Citation Reports citation databases.
